Project: acoustic treatment for a meeting room
Size of environment: 48 m³
Acoustic issue: high reverberation times; low privacy levels
In a corporate setting, the main function of a meeting room is to provide a space, which is very secure in terms of privacy, for gatherings to take place. However, many of these rooms are planned and designed without proper acoustic treatment, leading to increased noise levels and making it difficult to make out what people are saying.
This case study deals with the measures taken to correct the acoustics of a company meeting room approximately 48 m³ in size. The reverberation times in the room were calculated from measurements taken during the planning and design phase, and the most suitable acoustic solutions were identified. As can be seen from the graph and table below, the reverberation time (Tr) calculated before the installation of sound-absorbing products is 2.09 s at an average of 250-2000 Hz, which is too high to provide adequate privacy during group discussions. By installing 3 suspended Silente sound-absorbing panels 120x120x5 in size, it is possible to reduce the sound level by 3.94 dB, bringing the reverberation time down to 0.85 s.
Reverberation time without panels | Reverberation time with panels |
2,09 s | 0,85 s |
The flexibility of the fixing system, via height-adjustable cables, enables the distance from the ceiling to be adjusted by bringing the panels closer to potential sources of sound like, in this case, the conference table. During the planning and design phase, it was possible to determine the ideal distance at which to position the panels so that the sound waves from the different seats were properly intercepted.
Caruso Acoustic’s acoustic solutions are ideal for work settings, such as offices, co-working spaces, meeting rooms and waiting areas, and thanks to the various customisation options, they satisfy even the most complex project requirements.
