A company’s reception area is where visitors are first welcomed. Designed for efficiency, it is also important that the functional objectives, experience and feel of this area are coherent with the image and values that the company wants to convey.
In this type of setting, ensuring a proper balance between communicative requirements, the need for privacy and the ability to concentrate on tasks is absolutely fundamental. Acoustic issues in a reception area are often caused by long reverberation times, enabling sound to echo and resulting in increased background noise. These are very often large spaces with hard surfaces and few furnishings.
The case study presented concerns the acoustic correction of a corporate reception area around 93 m³ in size. Acoustic measurements taken during the planning and design phase revealed a high reverberation time of 1.38 s (at an average of 250-2000 Hz).
To ensure adequate comfort was achieved, considering the size of the area being treated, a reverberation time of 0.70 s in the area, while unoccupied, was the goal set. As can be seen from the graph, with the introduction of 7 Silente sound-absorbing panels 120x120x5 cm in size, a reverberation time of 0.71 s (at an average of 250-2000 Hz) can be achieved, satisfying pre-established objectives.

The targeted distribution of sound-absorbing elements, e.g. suspending the panels from the ceiling or attaching them to the wall, plays a key role in optimising sound-absorption results.
