The importance of acoustic correction in a playroom or children’s play area: a case study

Playrooms and play areas for children are places for recreational activities in which they can let their imagination run wild, be creative and have fun. That said, these settings can sometimes present acoustic issues such as loud echoes, excessive levels of noise and poor sound quality.

The three main factors to consider when correcting the acoustics of a room are sound absorption, sound reflection and reverberation time. In this case study, we are looking at an acoustic correction project for a playroom approximately 162m3 in size.
During the planning and design stage, the reverberation times within the room were measured and the optimum values to be reached were set.

Average reverberation time without panels Average reverberation time with panels
1,59 s 0,93 s

As can be seen from the diagram, with the installation of 4 Silente sound-absorbing panels (120x120x5 cm in size) suspended from the ceiling and 3 Silente panels of the same size mounted to the wall, it is possible to reduce the reverberation time from 1.59 s to 0.93 s, with a 2.33 dB decrease in sound level.

In conclusion, in a playroom or play area, good acoustics can make a difference in providing a comfortable setting in which children can explore their creative side and have fun. Caruso Acoustic offers a wide range of versatile sound-absorbing products that can be adapted to different needs, ensuring a comprehensive and efficient solution.
