Conference centres are multifunctional settings that host a variety of events, such as conferences, meetings, presentations and workshops. The acoustics of these settings represent a major challenge for staff and are often overlooked. In particular, problems with reverberation, background noise and sound leakage can affect intelligibility of speech, understanding of content and clarity of communication, with negative consequences on the quality of the user experience.
The conference centre in this case study consists of several rooms that vary in size. During the analysis phase, reverberation times within each room were identified and sound-level reduction targets were set. Simulations were carried out in accordance with standard DIN 18041:2016-03 for A3 conference activities for people with normal hearing, with 80% occupancy in the room.
The first room, measuring 1845 m³, had an average RT of 2.16s (250-2000 Hz). By installing 36 wall-mounted Silente sound-absorbing panels measuring 240x120x5 cm, a sound-level reduction of 3.90 dB can be achieved, reducing the RT to 0.88 s.
In the second room measuring 608 m³, the average RT measured at 80% occupancy (80 people out of a maximum of 99) was 1.90 s (250-2000 Hz). By installing 36 wall-mounted Dot panels with a diameter of 120 cm, the RT can be reduced to 0.72 s.
In the third and smallest room, measuring 263 m³, the installation of 24 120×120 cm Sail sound-absorbing panels with congruent sides makes it possible to reduce the average RT from 2.30 s to 0.60 s, with a sound level reduction of 5.82 dB.
The acoustic correction of a conference centre enables a significant reduction of reverberation, ensuring better intelligibility of sound and greater clarity of voice in all rooms. Thanks to the variety of solutions available, Caruso Acoustic is able to meet all kinds of different needs, ensuring excellent sound quality in every room.
