Optimising the acoustics of an event hall: a case study

Whether for weddings, corporate events, conferences or private parties, reception halls within public, hospitality or multi-purpose facilities must ensure a comfortable experience for all guests. In this context, acoustics play a key role.

Large spaces with high ceilings, reflective surfaces such as walls and hard floors can generate problems of excessive sound reverberation. Excessive ambient noise levels impair speech intelligibility during speeches, toasts or performances.

This case study proposes the acoustic correction of a 430 m3 event hall.
As the graph shows, reverberation times were very high before the intervention, at 2.46 seconds, resulting in general acoustic discomfort.

The solution involved the installation of various Caruso Acoustic sound-absorbing products: 28 Silente 120x120x5 cm ceiling panels (alternatively 34 Dot Ø 120×5 cm), 3 Flag 120x60x5 cm panels, 2 Flag 180x60x5 cm panels and 2 Flag 240x60x5 cm panels also mounted on the ceiling.

Thanks to this calibrated arrangement of sound-absorbing elements, reverberation times were reduced to 0.83 seconds, resulting in a sound level reduction of 4.72 dB. The installation created optimal acoustics, suitable for hosting any type of event with clear sound, free of disturbance from echoes or prolonged reverberations.
