Silente and Kubo sound-absorbing panels by Caruso Acoustic for the Scuola Superiore Meridionale (Naples, Italy)

Caruso Acoustic supplied a comprehensive range of sound-absorbing panels for the Scuola Superiore Meridionale (SSM), a higher education institution in Naples. The project involved spaces with different functions and characteristics, requiring specific acoustic solutions integrated into a building of great architectural value. The supply is part of a broader project led by the mother company LAMM, which managed the supply and the on-site installation of furnishings and teaching equipment for the various spaces.

High ceilings, historic decorations and marble floors contribute to significant reverberation, which can affect speech intelligibility and the ability to concentrate. To ensure optimal acoustic comfort, the project provided solutions tailored to each room, calibrating sizes, colours and installation systems to the characteristics and the intended use of the various spaces.

In classrooms and multi-purpose study areas, wall-mounted Silente panels have been arranged in multi-element configurations. The covering fabric alternates bright yellow, olive green and light hazelnut, enlivening the spaces. The result is an acoustic treatment that improves sound quality during lessons and creates more favourable conditions for studying and group work.

Silente panels have also been installed in the Digital Humanities Lab and teaching staff’s offices, featuring a more understated colour palette of olive green and light hazelnut tones. This solution helps to improve the acoustic comfort of daily workspaces, integrating discreetly into the balance of spaces.

In the meeting room, square and rectangular Silente wall panels create a striking visual composition behind the monitor, playing on the contrast between deep red and light grey. The larger panel, customised with the School’s printed logo, combines acoustic functionality with visual identity.

In the former Music Laboratory, located on the ground floor, the project employs a different solution: Kubo panels, cubic sound-absorbing elements suspended by cables and selected in shades of light grey, hazelnut and dark brown. Arranged within the space as a sculptural composition, they interact with the linear lighting and enhance the room’s volume, while ensuring reverberation control without affecting the wood-panelled walls.

The project demonstrates Caruso Acoustic’s ability to meet diverse acoustic and architectural requirements with a single, coherent solution. The variety of formats, colours, fixing systems and customisation options allows to enhance even the most prestigious spaces.
