Caruso Acoustic has realised an acoustic requalification project at Libera Università di Bolzano (seat of Brunico), founded in 1997 and ranked in the top twenty small universities of the world in “2019 World’s Best Small Universities Ranking” according to Times Higher Education.
The project has involved the secretarial offices, in particular the wide reception, an office and some lecture rooms.
The workspaces are hosted at the ground floor of an important historical building in the centre of Brunico, which has long been home to the former Scientific High School, characterised by irregular and suggestive vaulted ceilings.
During design, instrumental measurements of reverberation times have been taken in order to develop an acoustic requalification intervention. Particular attention has been paid to the structural features of the spaces and their intended use.
Sound-absorbing elements have been installed in the reception, which hosts many workstations, to cover the whole room surface area. Suspended to the ceiling by means of a steel wire fixing system, Kubo elements integrate to the space with versatility, thus creating a composition in line with the acoustic needs of the room. Fully covered in fabric, Kubo sound-absorbing element by Caruso Acoustic is realised in Basotect® melamine resin by Basf®, an eco-friendly material, produced without the use of halogenated hydrocarbons or toxic heavy metals, which complies with the current fire safety regulations.
The same compositional and functional principles have been followed for the set-up of the office next to the reception and the meeting room. In the latter room, a selection of Silente wall-mounted acoustic panels have been installed in order to guarantee the proper acoustic absorption and a good level of comfort.
The colour choice of the products’ upholstery fabric, characterised by a natural palette with some colour accents, helps creating an intimate atmosphere and a welcoming visual impact.
